Monday, Monday......
The next to the last Monday of the kids summer break. Apparently I woke up on the "cranky" side of the bed this morning. I hate it when I do that.
I don't like being a cranky pants to my kids.
Thankfully, Uncle Tom has taken the button pusher to the bike park today and I will only have a few hour window in which to yell at him.
The oldest boy has been made to do his "summer" reading requirement for school (which starts in two weeks) and I guess he was planning on waiting till the night before school started to work on that assignment. So, again, I get to be the "bad" guy and make him put up that video game that has become permanently attached to his hands and actually do something that will cost him grades when he starts school in two weeks (wow, is that the longest run on sentence ever, or what?).
Ah well, hopefully, the cool, crisp air of fall will arrive (P L E A S E) and the ringing of school bells will once again chime out over our community.
I'm hoping that my children will all enjoy this time in their lives (school and youth). High school was some of the best times I ever had, I hope that they will have a good an experience at schools as I did.
How about you? Are your kids self starters or do you find yourself having to crank on them to get it done? How did your school experience influence how you view your childs? Love to hear from you....

I had one self-starter as far as school work was concerned. However getting him out of bed in the mornings was a NIGHTMARE!!!! The daughter was just the opposite. Not hard to get around in the a.m. (she was all about being with her friends at school) but cracking those books - B-O-R-I-N-G! Interestingly enough, the son had to really, really work for his grades and did quite well. His sister made average grades. Just think of what she could have accomplished if she'd tried half as hard as her brother. Such is life!
I always had to be the starter upper. (whatever) I love when school starts and I don't even have kids at home any more.
Total crankers. All flippin three of em....grrrrr.
Actually, Michael is an early riser, but not a self starter as far as chores and such.
Mine are still fairly young.
My 12 year old is a self-starter. My 10 yr old is IF it is something that interests her. My 7 yr old rushes thru everything to get it done, even if it is wrong or unreadable.
My 3 year old is just, well, 3!
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I am stuck on chapter 9 of Beth Moore's "Insecurity" book. Not coincidently the chapter that requires me to "do" something about my problem.... SIGH!
I'm waiting for that cool crisp air of fall, too...although I think we've got about 3 more months before it hits here in Houston! My 8 yr old (homeschooled) is not a self starter, but once he's started, he's good to go!
